What I do for a living

I started out writing software, then kept following the code further down: into build systems, infrastructure, cloud platforms and, eventually, all the interesting ways those things can break. That journey led me to DevSecOps and cloud architecture, where I get to care about the application and the ground it stands on.

These days I design cloud architectures, build CI/CD pipelines and automate the jobs no human should have to do twice. I like security as an ingredient, not a garnish added five minutes before release. Somewhere along the way I became a certified Google Cloud Architect; next on the list is the Certified Kubernetes Administrator exam.

Why I tend this garden

Calling Hacktivate a blog has never felt quite right. Blogs sound as if they need a subject, a schedule and a reason to publish. This is a garden. I tend it because I enjoy tending it: planting thoughts, returning to them, pruning a sentence here and letting an unexpected idea grow wild over there.

Technology will naturally grow here because it takes up a large part of my life and curiosity, but it is not the fence around the garden. A post might begin with a terminal command, a cup of specialty coffee, something I cooked, a conversation or a thought that followed me home. If it crosses my mind and stays there long enough, it belongs here.

Some ideas will grow into polished guides. Others will remain small notes, unfinished paths or snapshots of what I was thinking that day. They do not all need to be useful, searchable or part of a theme. I write for myself and, in a slightly odd but sincere way, for the garden itself. A place you care for becomes a place worth returning to.

There is life away from the terminal

I love Linux and free software ♥, and I help run LuccaLUG, my local Linux User Group. When I do step away from the screen, you’ll usually find me with dogs, weights, something cooking or a cup of specialty coffee. Admittedly, I don’t stray too far from keyboards: I have a soft spot for ergonomic ones and enjoy building them myself.
